The Department of English at Government P.G. College, Sector 1, Panchkula, hosted a one-day State-level Seminar-cum-Workshop on the fascinating topic of “Theatre Down the Ages and English Drama.”

The event aimed to provide an insightful exploration into the evolution of theatre and its significance in English drama. Reeta Gupta, District Higher Education Officer (DHEO) and Principal of SMMDGSM, Panchkula, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, bringing her wealth of experience and expertise to the seminar. Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Rana Nayar, from the Department of English and Cultural Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh, served as the keynote speaker, offering profound insights into the historical trajectory and artistic nuances of English drama. The technical sessions were conducted by distinguished intellectuals in the field – Meenakshi Singh, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, Panchkula, Dr. Hemant Verma, Principal of Govt. College, Barwala, Panchkula, and Dr. Shailja Chhabra, Principal of Govt. College, Morni, Panchkula.

Their presentations added depth and breadth to the participants’ understanding of the subject. Yashpal Singh, Principal of Government P.G. College, Sector 1, Panchkula, served as the patron of the seminar. On behalf of the organizing team, the Convenor of the Seminar, Vineeta Gupta, Associate Professor of English, expressed gratitude to the esteemed guests and participants of the seminar-cum-workshop.

The technical sessions were hosted by the Organizing Secretary, Harpreet Kaur Baweja, and Dr. Mallika Tiwari. The welcome note was delivered by Anju Malik, and the Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Anita Hooda. More than 75 participants attended the Seminar in person, while 70 participants joined virtually, besides the guests and media persons. The diverse online attendance from states other than Haryana, such as U.P., Punjab, Delhi, and Chandigarh, highlighted the widespread interest in the topic.

The collective wisdom and experiences shared during the sessions contributed to a deeper understanding of the evolution of theatre and its impact on English drama. The organizing team comprised Dr. Seema, Dr. Sunita, Dr. Smita, Dr. Divija, Dr. Archana, Dr. Rakesh Pathak, Gurpreet Kaur, Veena, Shailja Kumari, Manisha Anand, Ashu, and Deepak. The success of the seminar-cum-workshop was a testament to the dedication of the organizers, the enthusiasm of the participants, and the invaluable contributions of the distinguished guests.
