The time to change roles and to allocate new responsibilities has come in Congress. After the declaration of result, the Congress has indeed got a boost. Now, the party high command is all geared up to take former chief minister Ashok Gehlot to some advanced role. There are indications that the former Gehlot is poised to assume a significant role within the party’s central organisation. If sources are to be believed, some changes can be made in the party’s national organisation in the coming days.
Congress candidate in Amethi Kishori Lal Sharma secured a significant victory by defeating Union Minister Smriti Irani under the leadership and supervision of Gehlot. The high command had given Gehlot the responsibility of senior observer in Amethi which led to this massive gain. Following this responsibility, there were speculations that Gehlot might reassume the position of general secretary within the party.
Considering the commendable performance in the Lok Sabha elections, the party might also contemplate changing the in-charge of certain states in anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for the end of this year.
Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand are slated to hold elections in four months, with only Jharkhand currently under an I.N.D.I.A bloc government while the other two are governed by the NDA.
The Lok Sabha election results have strengthened the Congress party and now the Congress is enthusiastic about these states. Despite not securing a majority to form the government in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress has substantially improved its position by clinching 99 seats compared to the previous two elections. Rajasthan also played a pivotal role in this transformation.
Firstly, it prevented BJP from scoring a hat-trick of winning all 25 seats for the third time. At the same time, it won 11 seats together with the alliance. Out of these, 8 were of Congress. Caste politics played a big role in this victory of the party. But the whole party fought the elections unitedly. Former CM Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot may have lost the election but he put in full effort in campaigning at other places. He camped in Amethi for 9 to 10 days and put in a lot of effort with the whole team. The high command now wants to take advantage of his experience in Delhi.
Gehlot has handled the responsibility of the post of general secretary in the organization many times before. Last time he had the responsibility of the post of organization general secretary.
There is a possibility of him getting this responsibility again.
KC Venugopal, who is handling the responsibility now, can also be made the state president of Kerala. Assembly elections are to be held in Kerala after one and a half years. Congress has been losing elections there for two consecutive times. In this regard, the party does not want to take any risk this time. The party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge is also in favor of giving the post of organization general secretary to a North Indian. It is believed that after the formation of the new government this week, some new appointments will start happening in the party.
