Former CM Ashok Gehlot supporting Rahul Gandhi’s statement wrote on X that Rahul Gandhi spoke the truth regarding PM Modi’s inclusion in the OBC category.
Referring to the Mandal Commission and the Bakshi Committee recommendations in Gujarat in 1978 he said, “The commission didn’t include Modi and the Ghanchi caste in the OBC category. Throughout the country, Modi’s caste has been a business community. Additionally, people from Jain, Maheshwari, Agarwal communities, etc., use Modi as a surname as well.”
He argued that this step would make it easier for the central and state governments to ensure social justice for backward classes. Gehlot emphasised that a caste-based census would eliminate any misconceptions and ensure scientific perspectives towards the welfare of backward classes.
Referring to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s statement supporting caste-based census, Gehlot asserted that it would facilitate social justice and debunk any myths hindering the progress of the general category.
Gehlot applauded Rahul Gandhi’s belief in equality among all sections of the society for development and justice which he claimed to be the purpose of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
