Just days after a horrific act of terrorism in Gagangir, Ganderbal district has been honored as the Best District at the 5th National Water Awards 2023. The award, which recognizes excellence in water conservation and management, was presented by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, today.
This prestigious recognition highlights Ganderbal’s exceptional efforts in sustainable water resource management, establishing a benchmark for environmental practices across the nation. The district’s achievements are the result of dedicated initiatives by local authorities, communities, and stakeholders who have come together to protect and preserve water resources.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Guardian, Deputy Commissioner Shyambir stated, “This award is a testament to the people of Ganderbal. It has been achieved through their collaboration, and I am optimistic that we will earn many more accolades in the future. Although I feel profound sadness over the recent terrorist incident, I can sense significant anger among the residents of Ganderbal. Nevertheless, they are united in their determination to eradicate terrorism from the region, as they aspire only for peace and the progress of their community.”
