The ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,’ which faced delays due to the writers’ strike in Hollywood, has now received a release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav provided an update on the series, stating that creator and executive producer George R.R. Martin is in preproduction for the new spinoff, which is set to premiere in late 2025 on HBO Max.

With the second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ premiering this summer, the release of ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ next year suggests that HBO may establish a pattern of having a ‘Thrones’ drama every year, assuming both series can complete their next seasons within two years.

Zaslav highlighted HBO’s strong lineup, mentioning upcoming shows like ‘Hacks,’ ‘House of the Dragon,’ ‘DC’s The Penguin,’ and the new ‘Dune’ series. In 2025, HBO will begin the year with the new season of ‘The White Lotus,’ followed by ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Euphoria,’ among others.

Additionally, HBO is developing an ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ prequel series by Mattson Tomlin, writer of The Batman: Part II. Other projects set in Martin’s fantasy world are also in development, although only ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ have been given the green light.

‘The Hedge Knight’ is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, which follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his squire, Egg, roughly 100 years before the events of the ‘Game of Thrones’ novels. The series is described as featuring “great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits” in an era when the Targaryen dynasty still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of dragons is still alive.
