Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart, Rishi Sunak, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between the two countries. The leaders held a bilateral meeting in Apulia, Italy, on the sidelines of the 50th Summit of the Group of Seven (G7).

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the implementation of Roadmap 2023. They expressed happiness with the progress in all areas of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which includes regular high-level political consultations, advancements in critical and high-technology sectors, and strengthening people-to-people ties.

What is the India-UK Trade Agreement?

The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations began in January 2022 and aim to significantly boost bilateral trade. Currently, mutual trade between the two countries is worth GBP 38.1 billion per year. A deal is expected to be inked after the British general elections on July 4.
