Mahua Moitra, representing the Trinamool Congress, emerged as a prominent female MP in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Moitra secured victory in the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal, triumphing over BJP’s Amrita Roy by 56,705 votes. Despite being expelled from Parliament in December 2023 amidst cash-for-query allegations, Moitra sought re-election and garnered 6,28,789 votes, surpassing Roy’s 5,72,084 votes. The CPM candidate, SM Sadi, secured the third position with 1,80,201 votes. Moitra is known for her outspoken nature and advocacy on various social and economic issues, with her re-election highlighting the significant influence she holds and the trust bestowed upon her by her constituents.
