According to BFMTV, as the continuing protests in France reached their sixth day, police detained at least 72 people last night as the rioting prompted by the police shooting of a teenager in a Paris neighborhood.

The night of Monday to Tuesday was more calmer than the previous ones, with 72 arrests in France, including 24 in Paris and its environs, compared to 157 the day before, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

Since the teenager’s death and the riots began on June 27, almost 5,900 automobiles have been set on fire, more than 12,200 garbage can fires have been registered, nearly 1,100 buildings have been torched or damaged, and nearly 270 attacks on police stations or other government buildings have occurred.

The situation has cooled down for the second night in a row. Unrest erupted in France on June 27 after a 17-year-old teenager was shot dead for failing to obey police commands.
The officer who shot his gun at the ethnic Algerian teenager has been arrested. On the night of July 2, 719 rioters were held in France, according to the Interior Ministry.
