The Bhartiya Janta Party appointed former Congress spokesperson, Jaiveer Shergill as its national spokesperson.

Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, Sunil Jakhar, and former president of Uttar Pradesh, Swatantra Dev Singh, were also appointed as the party’s national executives, according to a statement from the party.

The party announced that Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Manoranjan Kalia, and Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia, all three from Punjab, have been made special invitees to the national executive. Madan Kaushik and Vishnu Deo Sai, the former presidents of Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh, respectively, have also been made special invitees.

Shergill, a prominent young Congress leader and a lawyer by profession, tendered his resignation on August 24 and stated that the Congress’s leadership’s vision was no longer in line with the aspirations of the younger generation. Former Punjab Congress chief Jakhar also left the party in May of this year.

Singh left the Congress after being abruptly ousted as chief minister of Punjab the previous year. After leaving the Congress, the former chief minister, who entered politics in 1969, launched his own party, the Punjab Lok Congress. After joining the BJP, he merged his organisation with the latter.
