On Monday, the local police made their first arrest in the ongoing investigation into the Sunday blast at an illegal firecracker factory in Duttapukur in the North 24 Parganas district, which killed eight people and injured several more. Safikul Islam, the arrested person, was identified.
The Barasat Fire Station put the official toll in the blast at 8. “With one more body recovered from the wreckage of the factory, the toll in the cracker factory blast is now at 8,” Prashanta Ghosh, an official at Barasat Fire Station, told ANI on Monday.
