Farmers’ organizations in Haryana continue their protests against the government, pressing for their demands. Today, outside the mini-secretariat in Sonipat, farmer groups were seen protesting against the district administration and the government, alleging a lack of commitment. The farmers demand an increase in compensation for land acquisition for the Orbit Railway Corridor, compensation for high-voltage wires during fertilizer distribution, and opposition to the delay in starting the crushing season at Gohana Aluhana sugar mill.
The government is developing a railway corridor alongside the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway. Land acquisition for this project has been ongoing, but farmers persistently demand an increase in compensation. While the government has acknowledged their demand, the increased compensation amount has not yet reached the farmers’ accounts. Simultaneously, high-voltage wires are being removed from fields in hundreds of villages in Sonipat. Farmers from these fields demand compensation. Amid these events, there are allegations that officials are threatening protesting farmers via phone calls in Sonipat.
Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohad stated that although the government has acknowledged the demand for increased compensation for land acquisition related to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, the actual amount has not been disbursed to the farmers yet. The removal of high-voltage wires from fields in Sonipat is also met with opposition, with farmers demanding compensation. Farmers express concerns that the delay in starting the crushing season at Gohana Aluhana sugar mill might cause them losses. If their demands are not addressed, they plan to stage a sustained protest against the district administration within the vicinity.
