Kharif crop season is about to end in Haryana and the farmers are making arrangements to sow the Rabi crops including wheat. Farmers are desperate as the Rabi crop sowing season already has come but there is a shortage of fertilisers, especially DAP (Diammonium phosphate) which is used for mustard, wheat and other vegetables.
Thus, the shortage of fertilizer in Haryana emerges as a huge problem for the agrarian community these days. The farmers are eagerly waiting for DAP as they have tilled their land for sowing crops. Despite the tall claims made by the government, things remain unchanged so far which has put the farmers in a state of disparity. The shortage of fertilizer in several districts namely Mahendergarh, Charkhi Dadri falling in southern Haryana, continues to surface which is most likely to delay the sowing of Kharif crops in the state.
It is pertinent to mention that 3 lakh metric tonne DAP fertilizer is required in the present year. The opening balance of the DAP fertilizer is 53063 MT till 1 October while receipt of the same 51500 MT by 19 October amounting to the total availability of 104563 MT in the state. Out of the aforesaid availability, 71779 MT stock of the DAP was sold out and present stock is 32784 MT.
Regarding the issue, the opposition in the state including the Congress and the INLD continue to take on the BJP-JJP led government saying that there is an acute shortage and black marketing of the fertiliser in Haryana, forcing all members of the farmer families to stand in queues to buy DAP. It is being reported from several parts of the state that police personnel have been deployed outside the cooperative societies and sale counters in order to maintain laws and order and avoid any kind of chaos.
