A man was reportedly detained by the Odisha Police on suspicion of impersonating the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and defrauding job applicants under the pretence of offering them positions in the police service. He was identified as Sujit Padhiary. He allegedly conned a number of young people looking for work in numerous districts across the state, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kendujhar, Jaapur, and others.

Sujit used to claim, “I am DIG, give me money, and I will get you a job in the police force,” deceiving the victims. Ghatagaon police arrested Sujit after receiving a complaint from a person. They also found a police uniform, a phone, a fake gold chain, a ring, and Rs 12,000 in cash during the raid.

The culprit, a native of Sujanpur in the Jajpur district, was apprehended as he was trying to con people in the Kendujhar district of Ghatgaon.

The thug had  OFS written on his uniform, which raised suspicions about him and led to his capture. He identified himself as an IPS-level police officer.

Sushil Kumar Mishra, the Ghatgaon SDPO, told reporters that multiple incidents of forgery have been reported in Sujit’s name. In cities like Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Bhubaneshwar, “the accused used to con people by posing as senior police officials and promising them jobs in the police force,” Mishra added.
