Pakistan’s former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, Lt Gen (retd.) Faiz Hameed, has been taken into military custody as he faces a court martial over his involvement in a housing scheme scandal. This action comes in compliance with a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army’s media wing, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday. “Complying with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd),” the statement read. “Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of the Pakistan Army Act,” it added.

This move follows the formation of an inquiry committee by the military in April, which was tasked with investigating allegations of abuse of authority against Hameed, who led the ISI from 2019 to 2021. Once a figure of considerable influence, Hameed is now facing serious repercussions as part of the ongoing investigation.
