Leaders from the Group of 20 (G20) major economies have gathered in New Delhi for the G20 Summit, where they aim to address pressing global issues. However, the summit is taking place against the backdrop of deep geopolitical divisions, particularly regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which threatens progress on several fronts. Here is a closer look at some of the major leaders attending the summit and their accommodations:

  1. Joe Biden

– US President Joe Biden is in New Delhi and is staying at the ITC Maurya.

– He is set to hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss key topics such as the clean energy transition and climate change during the summit.

  1. Rishi Sunak

  1. China Delegation

– Premier Li Qiang is leading China’s delegation at the G20 Summit, indicating that President Xi Jinping will not attend in person.

– This marks the first time a Chinese president has missed a G20 leaders’ summit since its inception in 2008, although virtual attendance was noted during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

– The Chinese delegation is staying at Delhi’s Taj Hotel.

  1. Justin Trudeau

– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is taking part in the ASEAN summit in Indonesia before joining the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

The G20 Summit in New Delhi serves as a critical platform for these world leaders to discuss and address global challenges, but the shadow of geopolitical tensions looms large. The absence of President Xi Jinping from the summit has raised questions about potential meetings with other leaders, including President Biden. Meanwhile, leaders from various nations are converging to engage in discussions that may shape the future of global cooperation on issues such as climate change, clean energy, and economic stability.
