Former Congress Member of Parliament Sandeep Dikshit (son of Late Sheila Dixit) on Tuesday alleged that Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal has misused the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) funds worth about Rs 56 lakh.
During an election campaign in Chandigarh, Dikshit said the matter should be thoroughly investigated and therefore, he had written to the Central Bureau of Investigation in this regard.
Dixit said: “When Arvind Kejriwal was an income tax officer, he used to work with an NGO in Delhi. AAP leader Manish Sisodia was also associated with him. UNDP gave funds to this voluntary organization for some projects. Later, UNDP conducted an audit regarding these funds and it was revealed that there were 32 discrepancies.”
Dixit claimed that there was misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 56 lakh. “The work for which it was given to the NGO was diverted and spent on some other work. When UNDP came to know about this, the organization called Kejriwal and on being caught red-handed, he was forced to return the entire amount.”
Dixit said that since India is a member of the United Nations, this corruption case has been referred to the CBI. He demanded strict action in this matter. Asking why he is raising the issue at the time of elections, Dikshit said: “It’s just a coincidence that he got proofs few days ago and, the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party may call it an election stunt, but corruption always remains corruption, on which strict action should be taken.”
Dixit asked that the Aam Aadmi Party gives itself a certificate of being honest but who has given this certificate. “In 2013 too, Kejriwal had made allegations against the Delhi government and said that he will put Sheila Dikshit in jail if he comes to power. But till date nothing happened because the allegations were baseless. Now in Punjab too, they are beating the boast of honesty. In such a situation, the people of Punjab should know the reality.”
