Will Israel Surrender in Gaza? Netanyahu Rejects Gaza Ceasefire

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly rejected the idea of ending the military campaign in Gaza and withdrawing IDF troops, despite indications from Hamas of a potential comprehensive ceasefire tied to a hostage release deal. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel cannot allow Hamas to regain control of Gaza, rebuild its military capabilities, and pose a threat to Israeli citizens. He stated that Israel will continue fighting until all its goals are achieved, refusing to accept Hamas’s demands that would signify surrender.

International pressure has been mounting for Israel to agree to a ceasefire and engage in negotiations, with senior officials from the US, Qatar, and Egypt in Cairo alongside Hamas representatives. However, Netanyahu opted not to send a delegation at this time, citing Hamas’s entrenched positions.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh expressed the group’s desire for a ceasefire to end Israeli aggression, ensure Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, and secure the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Haniyeh blamed Netanyahu for obstructing mediation efforts and prolonging the conflict.
