Escalating Conflict: India Advises Citizens Against Non-Essential Travel to Iran

In response to the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel, India has issued a travel advisory for its citizens. The advisory urges Indians to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran and advises those living there to remain vigilant and maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

This announcement follows Iran’s recent launch of approximately 200 missiles into Israel, heightening fears of a broader war in the Middle East. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that it is closely monitoring the situation.

Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Israel had advised nationals against unnecessary travel within the country and emphasized the importance of adhering to local safety protocols. They provided helpline numbers for Indians in Israel.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed India’s concern regarding the potential for regional war, noting the need for responses to consider international humanitarian law. He condemned the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, labeling it a terrorist act that has contributed to the current tensions.

In retaliation to Iran’s missile attack, Israel has pledged to respond at a time of its choosing, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserting that Iran will face consequences. Meanwhile, Iran has threatened “crushing attacks” if Israel retaliates.
