Elon Musk, CEO of microblogging site X, formerly known as Twitter, has launched a new feature that allows subscribers to conceal their blue verification badge. The blue checkmark, an indicator of a verified account, can be hidden from profiles and posts, though it may still appear in some contexts. As per the company’s help page, this feature is continuously being refined for user convenience.

According to Mashable, Twitter blue subscribers can find the “Hide your blue checkmark” under “Profile Customization” in Account Settings. The blue checkmark was first introduced by Twitter in 2009 to distinguish genuine accounts of public figures and organizations from impostors. The platform did not initially charge for this verification.

Post-Musk’s takeover, Twitter Blue was launched, offering the verification badge as part of its premium package. Following the introduction of this $8/month service, many prominent figures, including Bollywood stars and politicians, temporarily lost their blue ticks, although they were restored shortly thereafter.

In other updates, on July 24, Twitter’s familiar bird logo was replaced with the letter “X”. Musk has hinted that this is an “interim” design, suggesting possible future changes. Despite these alterations, Musk announced that X’s monthly user count has reached new heights, surpassing 540 million. According to TechCrunch, further changes to the platform’s brand, including a gradual phase-out of the bird imagery, may be on the horizon.
