Elon Musk tweeted that, “Verified accounts are now prioritised,” revealing the information.
Due to the recent development, several celebrities have lost their verified blue ticks from their Twitter accounts Virat Kohli, Shah Rukh Khan, Sachin Tendulkar and Amitabh Bachchan. As multiple accounts have started paying, the announcement will definitely motivate others to join the bandwagon. The blue tick functioned as a method of protecting well-known individuals from impersonation and tackling false information.
“We will start winding down our legacy verified programme and taking away legacy verified checkmarks on April 1st. People can join up for Twitter Blue to maintain their blue checkmark on the social media platform, according to a tweet from Twitter in March.
In order to make it easier for users to tell which accounts “of public interest” on Twitter were genuine and not impostors or parody accounts. The company didn’t previously charge for verification.
Musk launched Twitter Blue with the check-mark badge as one of the premium perks within two weeks of the company’s takeover last year.
