The Returning Officer 5 for the Jammu Parliamentary Constituency, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, has issued the election notification today, marking the commencement of preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the constituency.

Scheduled for the 2nd phase of the electoral process, the Lok Sabha election in this constituency will witness candidates vying for parliamentary representation.
Outlined in the election notification are the timelines and procedures for candidates interested in contesting the parliamentary elections.

According to the notification, candidates or their proposers can file nomination papers at the Returning Officer’s office (Deputy Commissioner) in Jammu or Assistant Returning Officer 76- Jammu East (Joint Commissioner (A) Jammu Municipal Corporation) at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Wazarat Road Jammu. Nomination filing can be done between 11:00 am to 03:00 pm on any day (excluding public holidays) until April 4, 2024.

Nomination forms are available at the office of the Returning Officer located at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jammu. Scrutiny of the nomination papers is scheduled for April 6, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Jammu.  Candidates have the option to withdraw their candidature until April 8, 2024, until 03:00 pm. Polling day for the constituency is slated for April 26, 2024, with polling stations open from 07:00 am to 06:00 pm. As the electoral battle shapes up, the Bhartiye Janta Party (BJP) has nominated Jugal Kishor Sharma, a two-time MP from Jammu Parliamentary constituency, for the third time. On the other hand, the Congress has named former Minister and senior party leader Raman Bhalla as its candidate.

Bhalla contested in the 2019 elections but lost to Jugal Kishor Sharma.
