The excitement surrounding the 2024 elections has reached various political parties and segments of society, including unmarried men and widowers in Haryana. The Unmarried Association and Unmarried Ekta Manch, which have been advocating for their rights for the past 14 years, have developed a comprehensive plan. Members of both organizations will visit villages to raise awareness and unite unmarried individuals. They plan to demonstrate their strength through a state-level conference in either Jind or Hisar.
The number of unmarried men in Haryana has increased in recent years. To address this growing concern, the Haryana government initiated a monthly pension for unmarried individuals and widowers. However, the government claims there are around 70,000 people in this category in the state, while the Unmarried Association insists there are eight lakh unmarried and widowed individuals, with only 1.27 lakh being members. In smaller villages, there are 100 to 150 bachelors and widowers, while bigger villages have around 500 each.
The association asserts that unmarried individuals have significant influence in 60 constituencies of the state, particularly in the Jatland region. Despite their numbers, they have not been heard due to a lack of unity and awareness. While the government introduced pensions, many beneficiaries have yet to receive them. The association is willing to support any political party that aligns with their demands.
Unmarried individuals from our community continue to play a crucial role in organizing political rallies. The association’s membership has grown recently, and they are seeking employment opportunities for a better quality of life. The government’s monthly pension has yet to be disbursed, and they require employment for sustenance.
