The Election Commission of India has announced January 5, 2024, as the new date for voting in the Karanpur constituency in Rajasthan. The election was postponed following the unfortunate demise of the Congress candidate, Gurmeet Singh Koonar. Nomination deadlines have been set for December 19, with the withdrawal date being December 22. The counting of votes is scheduled for January 8, 2024.

The BJP emerged victorious in the Rajasthan assembly polls, securing 115 seats out of 200, surpassing the majority mark. In contrast, the Congress secured 69 seats. Key wins included former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s victory in Jhalrapatan and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s win in the Sardarpura seat.

However, the Congress suffered defeats as well, with Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi losing in Nathdwara to BJP candidate Vishwaraj Singh Mewar. Nonetheless, Congress leaders such as Sachin Pilot were victorious, defeating BJP candidate Ajit Singh Mehta.

With the BJP’s election victory, the focus has shifted to the appointment of the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Several potential candidates have been floated, including former CM Vasundhara Raje, Mahant Balak Nath, Rajasthan BJP chief CP Joshi, and Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat. In the coming days, the BJP leadership is expected to deliberate on the CM candidate for Rajasthan.
