Draft List Released By Supreme Court Of Neutral Citations Of Over 10,000 Judgements; Inviting Public Suggestions

The Supreme Court released a list of over 10,000 judgments from 01.01.2014 to 31.03.2023 with the proposed neutral citations in order to facilitate crowdsourced checking, so that it can address any missing or incorrect items with the help of legal professionals and the publishers.
The Supreme Court issued a notice and has also asked for the inputs for the same within 15 days which is to be sent to the Registrar of the Supreme court’s Library and the Editorial Section.
The notice issued stated that this court solicit invaluable suggestions on the proposed list of cases and for the referral neutral citations. Thus, one may compare the list of the cases and the neutral citations with their own database and accordingly the suggestions can be made with regards to any missing or incorrect data, if any, which being in the list of judgements.
The court stated that on consideration of suggestions received, the final list of judgments with neutral citation will be published by the Registry.
The court asked for any suggestions, if any, the same may be forwarded to the Registrar, Library and Editorial Section through email on judgeslibrary@sci.nic.in within a period of 15 days.
Therefore, the brain child of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, the system of neutral citations will ensure a uniform pattern for citing of all the decisions of the High Court and the Supreme Court. Thus, the bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud announced the of this system in February this year. CJI Chandrachud this year also launched e-ESCR project, whereby the digital version of all Supreme Court judgments is being made available online for free access.
