In the wake of BJP MLA Dr Prem Chand Bairwa’s appointment as Deputy Chief Minister from the Dudu assembly seat, optimism for district development has sparked among the citizens. Dudu’s gram panchayat, having earned the status of a district directly in the Panchayat elections under Congress’s defeated candidate Babu Lal Nagar, did not translate into electoral success during the assembly elections. Despite the storm created by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Babu Lal Nagar failed to capture the public’s appeal, paving the way for Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa’s second term in the assembly.
Hailing from a humble background in the village of Shrinivaspura in Maujmaabad, Bairwa’s journey began in a small thatched hut with minimal land. Enduring hardship, he juggled work as a labourer, tended goats, and learned sewing alongside his studies. Overcoming adversity, he eventually ventured into the garment export business, insurance agency, and property dealings. In 2000, his political journey began with victory in the district council member election from Dudu’s Ward 15. Bairwa, victorious again in 2008, entered the assembly for the first time in 2013, defeating Congress’s Hjari Lal Nagar. After a setback in 2018, he reclaimed the Dudu seat in the recent assembly elections, triumphing over Babu Lal Nagar.
Bairwa, now owns the property, including a house, land, and a petrol pump. In addition to this, he has maintained a clean record with no criminal cases against him.
Notably, Bairwa’s political rival, Babu Lal Nagar, faced legal issues, having been arrested in a CBI rape case. Despite Nagar’s initial popularity, his controversial image led to Congress sidelining him in the 2018 elections. As an independent candidate, Nagar secured victory, transforming Dudu into a district and gaining prominence within the party. However, in the 2023 assembly elections, Bairwa’s electoral success marked a significant shift, with BJP securing victory in the Dudu seat.
Dudu, with a unique status as a one-assembly-seat district, holds historical significance. Maujmaabad, an integral part of Dudu, boasts a rich history, featuring renowned art styles and historic landmarks like the Digmbar Jain temple. Despite its modest size, Dudu has emerged as a district of political and cultural importance in Rajasthan.
