The Chief Justice of Orissa High court, Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar presided over his court for the last time on August 08, 2023 as Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar demits office on superannuation.
Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar shared the bench with Justice Subhasis Talapatra, the Chief Justice designate of the Court.
However, three Public Interest Litigation, PILs were being listed before the ceremonial Bench for hearing, out of which two matters relates to the environmental issues and the matters were permitted to be withdrawn and the petitioner were advised by the court to approach National Green Tribunal, NGT.
Therefore, the hearing was completed within about three minutes after which some lawyers made their farewell references.
The Former Advocate General of the State of Odisha and Senior Advocate Surya Prasad Misra complimented the Chief Justice for his initiatives in bringing a revolution in digitization of State Judiciary and stated that the contribution of Justice S. Muralidhar for the Bar was ‘unfathomable’.
Justice S. Muralidhar while speaking to the lawyers from the Bench for the very last time said that the relation between the Bench and the Bar has quite improved, both at the High Court and District levels.
It has also been stated by Justice S. Muralidhar that the Bar of Odisha has huge potential and many of the young lawyers are doing very well.
Adding to it, he stated that they have role-models before them to emulate. Thus, the women lawyers are doing very well and I must mention that, irrespective of age they are doing very well, working very hard. The future of bar is looking very bright here.
