Family members of Disha Reddy, community groups, and women rights activists staged a protest in front of Ram Gopal Varma’s office in Jubilee Hills of Hyderabad and raised slogans against the release of “Disha Encounter” movie.
The protestors demanded Ram Gopal Varma not to release the movie as it will send a wrong message to society and add to the agony of the victim’s family.
A woman protester told The Daily Guardian, “RGV is a porn film director. Why doesn’t he make a movie on his daughter? Why does he drag other’s daughters for the sake of his movies? He is encashing. RGV is a rogue director.”
According to the promo of the movie, the film is to be released on November 26. Recently a trailer of the movie was launched by RGV on social media platforms.
According to sources, RGV said in his circles that if there are any legal hurdles, he will release the film on OTT platforms.
RGV tweeted, “the movie is fictional. With regard to speculations on DISHA ENCOUNTER film, I once again want to clarify it’s a fictional story based upon many cases from Nirbhaya rape onwards. ”The family of Disha moved the Telangana High Court praying that the movie should be stopped, which is scheduled to be released on November 26. Though Ram Gopal Varma has claimed that the movie is based on a fictional story, the trailer of the movie clearly says that it’s based on Disha’s gang rape.
Disha’s father told TDG, “This RGV has dragged my family to the streets. After the death of my daughter, we have been silently living and because of him the agony again flared up. Does not he have any other subjects to make movies? I will fight against him. He has cast an actor who looks like my daughter, everything about the movie looks like it is about the incident, and despite this, he is saying it is about Disha which means a path. Who will believe him? He is an expert in twisting things.”
Earlier, the Telangana High Court had also stayed a movie made by the filmmaker on the brutal Pranay murder case in Miryalguda, where he had tried to depict the murder as a “father’s love.
