Complaints of dirty water are emerging from various locations in the city. In Sector 38A, the water is so contaminated that residents have ended up in the hospital after falling ill, prompting people to come out of their homes in protest. Congress senior leader and former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal have criticized the BJP government and the Chandigarh administration for the water-related issues. Bansal states that this situation has arisen during the tenure of the BJP, which had promised 24-hour water supply to the people of Chandigarh in its 2019 manifesto, but has failed to provide clean water.

“I visited the Vikas Nagar area, where residents also complained of dirty water. Previously, people in Dhanas expressed concerns that water only comes once or twice a day, and even then, it is contaminated. This is a significant failure of the BJP, which is struggling to provide basic facilities like clean water. The pilot project for 24-hour water supply, supposed to commence in Manimajra, has not yet started. Despite an annual increase in water prices by the administration, people are compelled to endure diseases due to drinking contaminated water. They also have to incur expenses for treatment, which is quite challenging in this era of inflation.”

Pawan Kumar Bansal raised questions about the BJP’s accountability, stating that the party has deteriorated the condition of Chandigarh over the last 10 years. The BJP seems more focused on enjoying power, knowing how to seize power through undemocratic means, but once in power, they fail to work for the people.
