UP police have launched an investigation into SP leader Azam Khan’s illicit actions at Johar University. The police have recovered the cleaning machine of Rampur Municipality during an excavation at Johar University which has created a stir. This equipment, which costs crores, has been used in university for a long period. When the search began, university administrators hid it beneath the ground. In this case, the police have filed a fresh FIR against seven individuals, including Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam.
Samajwadi MP Ram Gopal Yadav has said that this kind of action should not be taken against him. He is a very honest leader. “It seems that those sitting in Delhi are taking these measures out of desperation. At the behest of Uttar Pradesh Govt, hundreds of false cases were filed against Azam Khan…As far as Income Tax raids are concerned, I don’t think such an action should take place at the residence of an honest man like him. He doesn’t have anything of his own, there is something pertaining to the University and it is public…If people stoop to such petty levels in politics, it will not be right for anyone.” Samajwadi MP Ram Gopal Yadav said.
The Income Tax Department has raided at various properties in Uttar Pradesh associated with SP National General Secretary Azam Khan’s Al Jauhar Trust. Raids are being carried out in Rampur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Sitapur, Lucknow, MP, and other cities early this morning. The Income Tax raid is taking place at the premises of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s Al Jauhar Trust in Lucknow, Rampur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, and Sitapur.

The Al Jauhar Trust is led by Azam Khan, a former Cabinet minister. The UP government cancelled a lease for a 3.24-acre property in Rampur provided to the Trust to establish a research facility earlier this year. This site was leased for $100 per year for more than 30 years in 2013-14. The administration called it off due to claims of irregularities. The research institute was never built.
A Rampur court had already jailed senior Samajwadi Party politician and 10-time MLA Azam Khan to two years in prison in a hate speech case filed during the 2019 parliamentary election campaign.
