Dholpur police in Rajasthan rescued a 7-year-old girl who was allegedly sold and married off to a 38-year-old man on Tuesday.
According to police, the crime occurred in the district’s Mania village, where they received information about a juvenile girl who was allegedly sold for Rs. 4.30 lakh by her parents and married off to one Bhupal Singh on May 21.
Suresh Chand, assistant sub-inspector and welfare officer, stated that a raid was performed in the village and that the police team discovered the little girl dressed as a bride at Singh’s residence.
According to Deepak Khandelwal, Mania circle officer, the girl was rescued, and a complaint was filed against individuals involved in human trafficking and child marriage under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
Khandelwal stated that they detained and questioned Singh’s family members, who admitted to buying the minor girl for Rs.4.30 lakh and marrying her to Singh on May 21.
According to police, early inquiry indicates that the family, which originated in Madhya Pradesh, has a few relatives who have done time in jail in comparable incidents, including an accused murder case.
According to Khandelwal, police are conducting more investigations into the case and attempting to identify those involved in such an act.
