A DHL cargo plane crashed into a house near Vilnius Airport in Lithuania early this morning, killing at least one person. Another individual was hospitalized following the crash, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m. UK time). Fortunately, all residents in the house survived the incident.
The aircraft, operated by Swiftair, a Madrid-based contractor, was en route from Leipzig, Germany, according to the Lithuanian airport authority. Emergency services, including a fire truck, quickly arrived on the scene, although the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
Flight-tracking data from FlightRadar24 indicated that the plane had turned north of the airport, preparing for landing, before crashing about a mile short of the runway. A significant police and ambulance presence was seen in the area, with several major streets nearby being cordoned off.
