Actor Dhanush has initiated a civil lawsuit against Nayanthara, alleging unauthorized use of visuals from his production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary. Filed in the Madras High Court, the suit also names her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, as a co-defendant, as reported by The Hindu.
Wunderbar Films, Dhanush’s production house, has sought court approval under Clause 12 of the Letters Patent to include Los Gatos Production Services India LLP—Netflix’s Indian content investment arm based in Mumbai—as a party to the case. The application allows the lawsuit to be heard within the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court. The court granted permission to proceed against all defendants, noting that Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and Rowdy Pictures are within its jurisdiction.
On November 16, Nayanthara responded strongly to Dhanush’s legal notice and his demand for ₹10 crore. She shared a detailed statement on Instagram, explaining that during the production of her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, she had sought Dhanush’s consent to include visuals from their 2015 film. Despite her request, Dhanush declined and subsequently issued a legal notice for using behind-the-scenes footage without permission.
