The tussle between Nabanna and the Raj Bhavan in West Bengal has found reflection up in the Assembly this time. Recently, the West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay had complained against Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to his Lok Sabha counterpart Om Birla, about “interfering in the internal affairs of the state Assembly”.
The Governor wrote in a reciprocal letter that he was very upset to know about this through the media. “The Speaker himself has insulted the governorship,” he wrote to Biman Banerjee in response to a complaint to Om Birla.
At a function titled “All India Speakers’ Conference” on June 22, Biman Bandyopadhyay had complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that the Governor of West Bengal had started interfering in the internal affairs of the Assembly. The state’s constitutional head is also circulating letters about things that are not under his jurisdiction, complained Bandyopadhyay. In retaliation, the Governor wrote on Wednesday, “Nothing could be more tragic. Your complaint is unconstitutional. The gate was kept closed even after I went to the Assembly. You did not attend. I have been insulted.”
