In the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the USA, US Under Secretary Uzra Zeya and top official Donald Lulu held discussions with Indian Foreign Secretary and Secretary West, marking their first visit. The US State Department has already issued a stern visa policy against Bangladeshis involved in manipulating the upcoming general election. Dhaka feared the US officials would persuade India to pressure Bangladesh, a close ally, to ensure a fair election. The New Delhi Bangladesh mission was on high alert, waiting for details of the discussions. Relief came when it was reported that the Bangladesh election was not a topic of discussion.
