The Congress party has appointed Devendra Yadav as the interim president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. Additionally, Yadav will continue in his role as the All India Congress Committee in-charge for Punjab. The announcement was made in a press statement released on Tuesday, following the resignation of Arvinder Singh Lovely as Delhi Congress chief.
Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from his position and submitted his resignation to party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday. In his resignation letter, Lovely expressed feeling “handicapped and unable to continue,” citing the alliance with the AAP as one of the reasons for his decision. He also alleged that decisions taken by the Delhi Congress were unilaterally vetoed by AICC general secretary (Delhi in-charge) Deepak Babaria. Despite resigning from his post, Lovely clarified that he was not quitting the party.

Former DPCC chief Anil Chaudhary called for Arvinder Singh Lovely’s expulsion from the party, urging Mallikarjun Kharge and organization general secretary K.C. Venugopal to expel Lovely “with immediate effect.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) he wrote, “I request my leader respected @kharge ji and organisation general secretary @kcvenugopalmp ji to expel @ArvinderLovely from the party with immediate effect. Organisation is supreme.”
Chaudhary accused Lovely of colluding with the BJP, similar to Congress candidate Nilesh Khumani in Surat who gave a walkover to the BJP.
In a detailed four-page letter, Arvinder Singh Lovely highlighted several issues concerning the local unit in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha election. He expressed his inability to protect the interests of the party workers, leading to his decision to resign from the post of DPCC President with a heavy heart.
The letter noted, “I cannot protect the interests of the party workers, I see no reason to continue in the said post. Therefore, with great regret and an extremely leaden heart, I tender my resignation from the post of DPCC President.”
