Amid Independence day celebrations, four people, including two police personnel, have been killed and a civilian has been injured despite heavy security.

The J & K Police control room in Srinagar was targeted. The police constable, who was wounded in a shoot out at Nowhatta in Srinagar on Sunday night, had to capitulate to his injuries. Another civilian was injured in a grenade attack in Gopalpora, near Srinagar.

Investigators claimed they had information on the assailants and that Lashkar-e-Taiba was connected to them. “The people behind these attacks will soon be arrested,” said a police officer, who did not want to be named.

At the scene of the firefight in Nowhatta on Sunday night, police said they seized a scooter, a rifle, and two grenades that belonged to two terrorists. They said that one of the two was wounded in the gunfight but was able to flee in the shadows. Police were searching for the two at the time. According to the police, they detained a Srinagar resident who had given the militants the scooter.
