Derabassi sub-division administration has taken a unique initiative to encourage the farmers coming forward to protect the environment by not burning the stubble
SDM Himanshu Gupta himself is visiting the fields of such farmers and honoring them as protectors of the environment.
After visiting a field in Kheri Jattan to give a certificate of appreciation to the farmer and Sarpanch Harchand Singh, for making bales without burning the straw, SDM Himanshu Gupta said that almost 900 acres of straw bales have been made in Derabassi for the first time this year.
Among these, the bales of the farmers planting potatoes have been made on a priority basis so that they do not have to wait for the disposal of stubble for sowing the next crop. He said that on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Ashika Jain, special encouragement is being given to the farmers who dispose of the stubble without setting it on fire. He said that there has been a significant increase in stubble management machinery in the district this time as compared to last year. Apart from this, the farmer does not face any problem in getting stubble management machinery, a control room has been set up at the district level, where the farmer can get information about the machinery available nearby him, by calling phone numbers 0172-2219505 and 2219506. Agriculture Development Officer, Derabassi, Danish Kumar said that those farmers who will make bales without burning the stubble or will manage the stubble with other means will also be given special honors at the district level by the district administration.
