Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Sushil Sarwan appealed to the representatives of political parties to ensure they follow the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India for the Lok Sabha General Elections-2024 and to cooperate with the administration and the government in conducting the elections in a transparent, fair, and peaceful manner. It is imperative to cooperate with the Election Commission.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Sushil Sarwan presided over the meeting of representatives of political parties regarding the Lok Sabha General Elections-2024 in the auditorium of the Mini Secretariat on Monday.
Voting will take place on May 25th, and counting will occur on June 4th.
Informing about the schedule of Lok Sabha General Elections – 2024, he said that the election notification will be issued on April 29, 2024, and nomination papers will be filed by the candidates until May 6. Nomination papers will be sorted out on May 7, and candidates can withdraw their nomination papers until May 9. Voting will be held on May 25, and counting of votes will take place on June 4.
Regarding public meetings in the district, Sushil Sarwan said that applications will be accepted to include the names of new voters in the list until April 25, 2024. The eligible person will have to apply in person. He informed that places have been earmarked for election rallies/public meetings in Panchkula Assembly Constituency 1-Kalka and 2-Panchkula. Public meetings/rallies can be organized by the candidates at these designated places after obtaining permission from the concerned Returning Officer. He clarified that there will be a ban on election-related propaganda in any school, college, and religious place. Additionally, no government or semi-government rest house/bungalow will be used for election-related meetings.
*Permission will have to be obtained for vehicles used in the election campaign.
The District Election Officer emphasized that for vehicles used in the election campaign, it is necessary to obtain permission from the concerned Returning Officer. He specified that the quantity of printing and the address of the printing press must be mentioned on the publicity material to be printed by the candidates. The rates for tents and other tent items used during elections have been fixed. He mentioned that the expenditure incurred by political parties on print media and electronic media at the district level will be assessed as per the rates set by DAVP. A Media Certification Monitoring Committee related to elections has been formed in District Panchkula. All candidates will have to get the campaign material used in the election-related campaign through print media and electronic media verified by the Media Certification Monitoring Committee. During elections, online applications will be accepted for all types of permissions, and permissions will also be provided through the online Suvidha App. Sushil Sarwan mentioned that all the teams – Video Surveillance Team, Video Viewing Team, Accounting Team, Expenditure Control Room, Flying Squad, and Static Surveillance Team – have been formed to monitor the election expenditure, and all these teams have commenced their work. He informed that for activities and other information during Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, a control room toll-free number 1950 has been established in Room No. 6 of the new building of the Mini Secretariat.
He also stated that during the elections, the camp office of the observers appointed by the Election Commission of India has been arranged in PWD Rest House Sector-1 Panchkula.
*Assistant polling stations for booths with more than 1500 voters
He mentioned that due to the presence of more than 1500 voters in polling booth numbers 108, 126, and 127 of Assembly Constituency 1-Kalka and polling booth number 15, 52, and 129 of 2-Panchkula, auxiliary booths have been set up along with these booths. The booth number has been prepared by adding (a) along with the same number, and the place has also been fixed in the same building. On this occasion, he appealed to the representatives of political parties to appoint booth-level assistants of their respective parties and cooperate in conducting the elections.
