Once again, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal skipped the Enforcement Directorate summons on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. “Every time, before the summons reaches me, it is already in the media. This raises questions about whether the purpose of the summons is to conduct a legitimate inquiry or tarnish my reputation,” said the Delhi CM.
Arvind Kejriwal also wrote a letter to the ED after skipping the summons three consecutive times in Delhi’s liquor scam case. In the letter to the ED, he accused the Enforcement Directorate of being “opaque and arbitrary” and asked the probe agency if it was issuing summonses to tarnish his reputation. Kejriwal also questioned the ED’s silence on his response to the probe agency, raising legal objections over the summonses being issued to him.
“Every time, before the summons reaches me, it is already in the media. This raises questions about whether the purpose of the summons is to conduct any legitimate inquiry or tarnish my reputation,” Kejriwal wrote in his letter to the ED.
The CM also wrote, “Being the Chief Minister of Delhi, I am also quite occupied in planning and preparing for several programs and functions for Republic Day, i.e., January 26, 2024.
In such circumstances, I hope that you shall act as per the law by transparently and fairly considering my objections as raised and indicated in my earlier responses,” he wrote.
He also wrote, “I would be happy to respond to any questionnaire if you seek any information/document that is in my knowledge/possession.”
This was the third ED summons to Kejriwal after he refused to appear before the probe agency on November 2 and December 21.
