Delhi: Seven Arrested For Setting Car on Fire

The suspects were apprehended after a chase of over 600 kilometers around Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, the police said.

In a recent incident, seven individuals, including the main accused, Rahul Bhasin, were arrested for allegedly setting a car on fire in New Delhi. The incident occurred at 12:10 am on Sunday when the victim, Ranjeet Chauhan, had parked his car in front of his house. Following the incident, the police mounted technical surveillance and tracked the accused through CCTV footage. The suspects were apprehended after a chase of more than 600 kilometers around Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to arson. The crime and forensic teams examined the car, and the vehicle used by the accused has been recovered. Further investigation is ongoing.

Similar incidents have occurred in Delhi in recent times:

December 26, 2022: A 23-year-old man set a vehicle ablaze at a multi-level parking facility in West Delhi’s Subhash Nagar, leading to the destruction of 20 cars. The accused, Yash Arora, reportedly committed the act to take revenge on the vehicle’s owner. He was arrested with the help of CCTV footage.

September 28, 2024: Delhi witnessed three separate firing incidents within 24 hours, targeting a second-hand luxury car showroom, a hotel, and a sweet shop. In the first incident, gunmen fired 20 rounds at a car showroom in Naraina Vihar, leaving behind a note with the name of Portugal-based gangster Himanshu Bhau. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

These incidents highlight a concerning trend of arson and targeted attacks in the city, prompting increased vigilance and law enforcement efforts.
