Delhi SDM Piyush Rohankar (DANICS) on Friday released his debut novel, A Pleasant Escape, based on the lives of IAS aspirants.
The book has been released online due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation.
“The book managed triple digits Pre-Order sales on Amazon and Flipkart and received good responses from Suspense lovers, college students, UPSC aspirants and bureaucrats”, Rohankar said. When asked about the USP of his book, the author said that there was not one suspense thriller out there that spoke of the zeitgeist of the trying times of IAS aspirants, so he felt the need to depict a gist of it in his story.
He added that although the novel does give you a sneak peek into the civil service exam preparation, this book is not at all a guidebook for civil service preparation. It’s a suspense story and can be enjoyed by anyone. When asked how he managed to write a novel amidst his hectic work schedule, the SDM answered that he had finished the novel way back in 2018 and it took two years to complete the process of finding a publisher and getting the work out in the market.
Also, as informed by the author, formal negotiations for buying the audio-visual rights of the novel is in progress with a media company. When asked to give a gist of his novel, the SDM said that “when the main protagonist Alok Shirke decided to prepare for the mother-of-allexams – UPSC Civil Service – little did he know that the journey would turn out to be much more than just books and classes.”
He moves from the comfort of his home to the crowded lanes of Old Rajinder Nagar. A chance encounter with Sarah seems like destiny’s compensation for all his hard work.
