Delhi records highest single-day spike with 5,673 new Covid cases

As India’s total tally soared past the 8-million mark this week, the country recorded a jump of 49,881 Covid-19 cases on Thursday. Meanwhile, Delhi registered a new high in daily numbers with 5,739 cases being reported over 24 hours. This was the second consecutive day of the national capital logging more than 5,000 new cases of Covid-19.

Delhi also recorded 4,138 recoveries and 27 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the capital’s total case tally to 3,75,753, which includes a total of 3,38,378 recoveries, 30,952 active cases and 6,423 deaths. The country›s death toll has also mounted to 120,699, while a total of 1,20,527 have lost the battle against the virus. Even though 7,315,989 Covid-19 have been discharged so far, there are still 603,687 active cases in India.

Maharashtra continues to be India’s worst-affected coronavirus-hit state. The state’s tally rose to 16,66,668 with 5,902 new cases being reported in the last 24 hours. The state also recorded 156 deaths, taking the death toll to 43,710. A total of 7,883 patients were discharged after treatment during the day, taking the tally of recovered people to 14,94,809. There are 1,27,603 active patients as of now.

Haryana reported 1,594 fresh coronavirus cases taking the total caseload to 1,63,817 while eight more Covid-19 related deaths took the death toll to 1,766. Meanwhile, the neighbouring state of Punjab reported 468 new Covid-19 cases, 427 discharged cases and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total positive cases to 1,32,727 till date, which includes 1,24,293 discharges, 4,266 active cases and 4,168 deaths.

The Covid-19 infection count in Gujarat reached 1,71,040 after 987 people tested positive in the last 24 hours. As many as 1,083 patients recovered during this period too, which took the state›s recovery count to 1,54,078. The death toll due to the virus now stands at 3,708 in the state as four more patients succumbed to the infection.

Madhya Pradesh reported 728 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 1,69,999, while 16 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 2,929.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 551 fresh Covid-19 cases in the same time period, which took its virus count to 93,764. Of the fresh cases, 197 are from Jammu and 354 from the Kashmir valley. 11 fatalities pushed the death count to 1,466.

West Bengal recorded the highest single-day recovery of 3,945 Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cured people to 3,21,873. But the state›s coronavirus death toll mounted to 6,725 with 61 more patients succumbing to the disease. The total tally also rose to 3,65,692 after 3,989 people tested positive for the virus. West Bengal has 37,094 active cases at present.

Tamil Nadu recorded 2,652 new Covid-19 cases, 35 deaths and 4,087 discharges in the past 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state is now 7,19,403, including 6,83,464 discharges and 11,053 deaths. There are 24,886 active cases in the state.

Karnataka recorded 4,025 fresh cases and 45 deaths in the last 24 hours, Karnataka’s Covid-19 tally and cumulative fatalities reached 816,809 and 11,091, respectively. A total of 7,661 people were discharged, taking the state’s aggregate recoveries to 741,219 and active cases stood at 64,480.
