Two drug peddlers carrying 25 g of heroin were arrested in Govindpuri by Delhi police on Tuesday to curb the sale of contraband. The heroin seized by the police was worth Rs 6 lakh.
The two accused, Gautam and Vinay, had come to DDA park to sell the psychotropic substances to an unknown person, who then were arrested immediately by the police on the basis of intel.
The operation to nab the drug peddlers were done on the basis of the secret tip received by the staff of the Anti-Narcotic Cell of South-East District team, which was handed with the objective of cutting down the sale of contraband in the area of Southeast District, especially in Govindpuri—the team had laid down a trap in DDA park near petrol pump to nab the culprits.
According to the press statement released by the Delhi Police: “Soon after, the team saw two persons carrying plastic polythene coming from DDA Park Basti side. The secret informer pointed towards them and conveyed that they are the alleged drug peddlers. The team at once apprehended them. On checking their polythene, they were found containing heroin weighing about 25 g.”
Police interrogation revealed that the accused persons are addicted to drugs and alcohol. “On sustained interrogation, the accused persons disclosed that they are addicted to drugs and alcohol. To live a lavish life, they started supplying heroin so that they could earn quick money to settle the difference between their earnings and requirements.
They used to sell heroin in small packets to unknown persons near Nizamuddin railway station. On 11 December 2021, when they were going towards DDA park to sell heroin to an unknown person, they were held by the police staff,” the police press statement read.
The accused, 19-year-old Gautam, R/o Govindpuri and has studied up to 9th class, has been previously involved in three cases of robbery, Arms act, and theft.
The second accused 20-year-old Vinay, R/o Govindpuri, has studied up to 8th class. “He has nothing to do to earn his livelihood except supplying heroin to unknown persons. No previous involvement has been found against him,” the police press statement read.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 703/21 u/s 21/61/85 NDPS Act was registered at PS Govindpuri. “With their arrest, 25 g of heroin has been seized. Further investigation is under progress to un-earth the head and tail of recovered contraband,” the statement read.
