Delhi, the nation’s capital, has intensified security measures by setting up multiple layers of barricades in anticipation of the opposition INDIA bloc’s protest on Friday, March 29, as per sources.

These actions follow the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 22, who was then remanded to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody until March 28.

A significant presence of police personnel and paramilitary forces is observed on roads leading to the BJP headquarters. Security personnel have been deployed at various locations in Central Delhi, along DDU Marg, and around the ITO area.

Kejriwal is facing allegations of money laundering in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam.

On Thursday, the AAP notified members of the bloc about a planned protest against Kejriwal’s arrest, also addressing the issue of electoral bonds that has garnered attention recently. The demonstration is set to occur at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters on DDU Marg.

According to data available on the official website of the Election Commission of India, the BJP received the highest funds through electoral bonds.

To challenge the ruling BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the INDIA bloc was formed, consisting of opposition parties such as the AAP, TMC, Congress, DMK, and SP.

The Delhi Police has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the DDU Marg vicinity and nearby areas, restricting large gatherings.

“Barricades have been erected, and security personnel will prevent protestors from advancing towards DDU Marg,” stated a police officer, as quoted by PTI.

The road leading to the BJP headquarters from ITO and Minto Road is presently open but may be closed if necessary.

On March 31, the INDIA bloc plans to hold a large rally at Delhi’s Ramleela Maidan.
