The Delhi Police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against jailed gangster Hashim Baba and eight members of his gang for their continued involvement in organized criminal activities, officials confirmed on Friday.

Hashim Baba, currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail since 2020, faces multiple charges, including murder conspiracy, extortion, violations of the Arms Act, and the Passport Act. MCOCA has also been imposed on four other prominent members of his gang—Rashid Cablewala, Sachin Golu, Sohail, and Shahrukh—who have long been involved in various criminal activities as part of the Hashim gang. The provisions of the MCOC Act are related to criminal cases dating back to 2013.

In a separate operation, the Delhi Special Police Cell, along with the Meerut Special Task Force (STF), apprehended two gang members in Uttar Pradesh linked to the murder of Nadir Shah, a 35-year-old gym owner who was shot dead in public view in South Delhi on September 12. The suspects, Anas Khan (18) and Asad Ameen (21), were injured during an encounter with the police and have been taken into custody.

Police recovered three pistols and nine live cartridges from the suspects, with Anas Khan also wanted in connection with four criminal cases in Delhi, including two murder charges and two attempts to murder.

MCOCA is specifically designed to combat organized crime and prevent underworld activities.
