The Delhi High Court in the case Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay v. Union of India And others observed and seek stand of the Union Government and the Delhi Government on the Public Interest Litigation moved in order to restrict the cash transaction of goods, the products and services purchased through online shopping platforms which includes Amazon and Flipkart, etc.
The division bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela in the case observed and has asked the counsel appearing for the governments in order to obtain instructions in the matter and to listing the matter to be next heard in August.
Therefore, the bench in the case has note issued the formal notice yet.
The petition was moved by Advocate and BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, wherein the petition seeking direction for steps in order to reduce corruption. Therefore, it also seeks direction for restricting cash transaction of air ticket, rail ticket, the electricity bill and other bills for an amount of Rs. 10,000 and above.
It has also been submitted by Upadhyay before the court that the prayers in the Public Interest Litigation being a practical solution in order to control corruption, black money generation, money laundering, benami transactions and disproportionate assets. Further, the plea filed stated that no district is free from the clutches of mafias’ viz. land mafia, drug-liquor mafia, mining mafia, transfer-posting mafia, betting mafia tender mafia• hawala mafia illegal immigration mafia conversion mafia, the white-collar political mafia and the superstition-black magic mafia. Further, the society is divided on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex and place of birth.
Adding to it, it has been stated by Upadhyay that it being the duty of the government to examine good practices of other countries who are ranked among top 20 in the Corruption Perception Index, and in order to implement the same for giving a strong message that it is determined to fight against the menace of corruption and black money.
Accordingly, the court listed the matter to be next heard in August.
