The Delhi High Court in the case observed and seek response of the Delhi Police in a petition moved by women wrestlers for a court-monitored investigation in connection with the sexual harassment case which is being registered against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of Wrestling Federation of India, WFI.
In the present case, the notice is issued by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal of Rouse Avenue Courts in a petition which has been filed under section 156 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
The plea filed seeks the court monitored investigation and the other related reliefs which includes a report on the action taken by Police in the matter.
In the said case, the Delhi Police has registered two FIRs in the Connaught Place police station against Singh. Therefore, one FIR was registered under various offences as stated under Indian Penal Code, 1860 whereas the other FIR was being registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Further, the FIR in the case was registered against the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. on sexual harassment allegations of a minor wrestler. Thus, the Second FIR in the case is based upon the complaints of other women wrestlers.
The Supreme Court in the case closed the plea moved by the women.
Accordingly, the court listed the matter to be next heard on May 12, 2023. The counsels Advocates Anindya Malhotra, Shaurya Lamba represented the wrestler.
