Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Monday acknowledged the chargesheet filed in the Swiss woman murder case. Gurpreet Singh, arrested in October 2023 for allegedly killing Swiss woman Nina Berger, faces charges under sections 302, 201, 404, 482, and 411. Metropolitan Magistrate Divanshu Sajlan directed the case to the Principal District and Sessions judge, scheduling the accused’s appearance on January 30, 2024.

The Delhi Police filed a thousand-page charge sheet covering murder, destruction of evidence, etc., invoking sections 302 (murder), 201 (disappearance of evidence), 404 (misappropriation of a deceased person’s property), 482 (punishment for using false property marks), and 411 (possession of stolen property).

According to the Delhi Police, the body of the Swiss national was found near an MCD school wall in Tilak Nagar. The police seized the car used in the crime. The accused, during interrogation, disclosed meeting the woman on a social media site four years ago. Their friendship turned into a relationship, but the accused, upset about the woman’s other boyfriend, lured her to India, where he allegedly tied and choked her to death.
According to the police, the accused purchased a car by using another girl’s ID and disposed of the body in the Tilak Nagar area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer stated that they received a call between 8:45 am and 9 am at Tilak Nagar police station about the incident, and specialized teams promptly reached the scene.

“Initially, we suspected a murder case. We registered a case under sections 302 and 201 and initiated an investigation… Surveillance cameras nearby captured a suspicious car passing by… After identifying the car, purchased with cash from a second-hand dealer in Janakpuri, we traced the accused named Gurpreet. He was using the car… Gurpreet was apprehended from Janakpuri last night…”

“Only preliminary interrogation has occurred… Gurpreet is not very cooperative… It is confirmed that the body was dumped in a car… The victim had been in contact with the accused for the last 8-10 days,” DCP Veer added.
