The Delhi Capitals are fully prepared to enhance their squad in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 auction set to take place in Mumbai on Saturday. Having retained 15 players, the Delhi-based franchise aims to acquire three more players to finalize their WPL squad. With a remaining purse of Rs 2.25 crore, they are strategically positioned for the auction.
Jonathan Batty, the head coach of the Delhi Capitals, expressed their focus on squad depth improvement, building on their success in the previous year’s auction. He stated, “We did really well in last year’s auction and constructed a good 18-player squad. We’ll look to make our current squad slightly better in the upcoming auction.”
Batty highlighted the coaching group’s excitement and discussions about the team they aspire to build. He emphasized their eagerness to enter the auction with a strategic mindset.
Regarding the Women’s Premier League’s global impact, Batty stated, “We witnessed a great quality of cricket in the last edition of the Women’s Premier League. The best players in the world were in the tournament. This tournament is the benchmark for all the other women’s tournaments in the world.” Assistant Coach Hemlata Kala added insights about the widespread excitement among women cricketers surrounding the Women’s Premier League. She emphasized that all players aspire to be part of this benchmark tournament, highlighting its growing influence in the women’s cricket landscape.
