Resident doctors of Kasturba Hospital, Hindu Rao Hospital and other hospitals/ dispensaries under North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) have written a letter highlighting nonpayment of salaries for the last three months. Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has expressed its concern on this issue where these doctors have been working selflessly and tirelessly in the highly stressful times of coronavirus pandemic for the last three months.

Dr Girish Tyagi, president of DMA, in a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah states, “In our selfless service to the nation in fighting Covid-19 on frontlines, our doctors, without even caring about their lives are not only taking a risk for themselves but their families as well. They are trying every bit to serve society. The doctors are determined to fight until their last breath in the interest of people and the country.”

The letter further asserts that under such stressful situations, doctors have been put under avoidable additional mental stress and distractions due to the nonpayment of salaries. Their families are not able to cope with such adverse situations without money as they are also required to feed and sustain their families like others.

Dr Tyagi says that on behalf of DMA, they have asked for an appointment with the Home Minister to discuss the issue. “We request him to look into the matter and intervene on an urgent basis so that our colleagues get their dues at the earliest,” Dr Tyagi said.
